The Lies They Tell Themselves

Since the beginning of President Trump's special military operation in Iran, his supporters have promoted narratives that this operation, dubbed "Operation Epic Fury", is also strategically beneficial to the United States in regards to combating both China and Russia. One myth in particular is that the targeting of Iran's military infrastructure is indirectly damaging Russia's war efforts in Ukraine due to Russia heavily using the Iranian one-way attack Shahed-136 drones.

This is no longer relevant or true. Russia originally relied on Iran for the Shahed-136 drones, however Russia, for the past year and a half, has been responsible for 90% of the production of the Garden-2, the equivalent of the Shahed-136 and estimates show that Russia will likely be entirely self-reliant by the end of this year, thus debunking that myth.

Additionally, the chaos in the Strait or Hormuz has directly impacted the oil trade, leading the United States to lift sanctions on Russia, allowing countries to begin purchasing Russian oil due to the crisis in the Hormuz. This is obviously beneficial to Russia and negatively impacts Ukraine.

Another myth is that it is to counter China, an ally of Iran. While it is true that China receives discounted oil from Iran due to the sanctions on Iran, it is not solely reliant on them. Even so, American tax dollars are currently being used by the US Navy to attempt to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, which would allow that oil to continue flowing to China.

The United States is also burning through its stockpiles of air defense weapons systems and has begun pulling from other American military installations, including those in Southeast Asia. The United States does not have the military industry it had in World War II, these stocks will not be replenished by 2027 - 2030, the time in which the Department of War has estimated a potential conflict with China will occur.

Even if this conflict does not directly involve the United States, it will greatly affect Taiwan's defensive capabilities in the event they need military aid. The list could go on, but the point remains that despite what supporters say, this is not a war that will counter Russia, or China. These narratives are nothing more than proof that those who remain steadfast by President Trump's side will do so no matter what and will believe whatever talking points are pushed, no matter how absurd or founded in fiction they are,
